Rio Calaveras Student Council
The Student Council is comprised of a President, a Vice President, a Secretary, a Treasurer, and a Public Relations Officer in addition to seven Representatives elected, one from each 7th and 8th grade homeroom.

 

The purpose of student council is:

  • To develop positive attitudes and to practice good citizenship.
  • To promote harmonious relations throughout the entire school.
  • To improve student/faculty relationships.
  • To improve school morale and general welfare.
  • To provide a forum for student expression.
  • To plan special events or projects.

Student Council meetings will be held at Rio from 8:00 am - 9:00 am on Wednesdays.

President (Held only by 8th grade)
Some of the jobs of President position include but are not limited to:

  • Preside over and conduct regularly scheduled and any additional meetings that may be required to be effective in student body leadership.
  • Give guidance, support and leadership to school activities that are approved by the administration and the student body.
  • Plan, support, implement and delegate responsibilities within the framework of student activities supported by adult sponsorship.
  • Collaborate with PTRC and attend meetings if invited during the school year.
  • Exhibit exemplary behavior, leadership and acceptable scholarship standards.

Vice-President
Some of the jobs of Vice-President position include but are not limited to:

  • Attend all Student Council meetings.
  • Generate enthusiasm for special events on campus and promote school spirit throughout the year.
  • Work closely with the president to be fully aware of his/her role and responsibilities in the event of his/her absence and/or to assume the role per his/her direction.  
  • The president may assign the vice-president to reside at the meetings.
  • Collaborate with PTRC and attend meetings if invited during the school year.
  • Report to Student Council on past and future special events.
  • Exhibit exemplary behavior, leadership and acceptable scholarship standards

Treasurer
Some of the jobs of Treasurer position include:

  • Attending all Student Council meetings.
  • Generate enthusiasm for special events on campus and promote school spirit throughout the year.
  • Assist the Student Council in the conduct of its business.
  • Responsible for reporting on a monthly basis the income and expenditures of student body monies / student activities monies.
  • Sign authorization for expenditures when necessary.
  • Assist in banking procedures.
  • Exhibit exemplary behavior, leadership and acceptable scholarship standard

Secretary
Some of the jobs of Secretary position include:

  • Keep accurate records of school business in each meeting.
  • Will keep an accurate accounting of motions brought to the floor, the seconding of motions, discussion and final disposition of items.
  • Call roll.
  • Attend all Student Council meetings.
  • Generate enthusiasm for athletic events on campus and promote school spirit throughout the year.
  • Exhibit exemplary behavior, leadership and acceptable scholarship standards

PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER
Some of the jobs of Public Relations Officer position include:

  • Attending all Student Council meetings.
  • Generate enthusiasm for special events on campus and promote school spirit throughout the year.
  • Assist the Student Council in the conduct of its business.  
  • Oversee class representatives’ Student Council communications with the student body.
  • Promote through advertizing (bulletins, announcements, school web site, posters, etc) special events as directed by the Student Council
  • Exhibit exemplary behavior, leadership and acceptable scholarship standards.

HOMEROOM REPRESENTATIVE
Some of the jobs of Homeroom Representative position include:

  • Attending all Student Council meetings.
  • Generate enthusiasm for special events on campus and promote school spirit throughout the year.
  • Communicate clearly appropriate information between Student Council and homeroom.
  • Exhibit exemplary behavior, leadership and acceptable scholarship standards.
